It is known by many that you have to change the air filters in your A/C system regularly. But where can someone find out the information that lets you know exactly how often? How are people supposed to know what size to get or what direction to put it in when you install it? As you have guessed by now I am no expert with air conditioners. Nobody is except for Heating and A/C professionals. When you first get an air conditioner installed it can be tough to figure out what kind of filter to purchase. It wasn’t until I gave my local Heating and A/C professional a call and asked him a few questions that I found out that it is easy to change the A/C filter myself! Depending on the air conditioning system you have you may only need to change the filter once every three to four months. Unfortunately, my device requires us to change my filter about once every month. But I am not worried about it because I have talked to my Heating and A/C professional and he has equipped us with the right knowledge to go out and purchase my own filters and install them too. It is important to replace your air conditioning filters as soon as it is necessary. If you do not, you could be breathing in harmful pollutants and allergens. Nobody needs that crap in their lungs. These days with pollution spiraling out of control it is more important than ever to have superior air quality at home. Changing my A/C filters also ensure my A/C unit isn’t working harder than it has to, preserving its lifespan.

With a cooling system there is one major choice you have to make. Do you want ductwork or not? Air ducts can be a good thing if done properly. The HVAC ducts take the heated or cooled air the HVAC device creates. Ductwork is in your ceiling and walls. The air ducts connects all rooms in your home so that they all can have access to the HVAC unit. It is an easier and more efficient way to be heating and cooling your entire home. Also certain HVAC ducts can be closed off to create HVAC zone control. It really is up to you. However, ductwork can be a problem. Ductwork sealing frequently needs to be done on the air ducts. The HVAC technician sets up the ductwork in a straight line in your home. However most of the time cracks around the seams happen. This allows the air your air conditioning and heating device is making to literally fly out of your home. It raises your energy bills and hurts your HVAC device. Also ductwork sealing is not foolproof. In fact, most HVAC contractors do more harm than good when they try to seal the air ducts. They are just too fragile. The same happens with ductwork cleaning, the technician causes tears in the air ducts. Ductwork cleaning is necessary however since the dust in the air ducts ruin your air quality. So now you have to decide if it is worth having all those issues to heat and cooling an entire home. There are always ductless options to decide from in your home.
I have one free period between teaching classes at school this year. It is right after lunch, and it is fifty minutes long. Throughout the year, I have used that free period for many different things. I have used it, most frequently, to get grading done, but I have also used it to complete lesson plans, research for my next class, or run some quick errands. Lately, I have begun to use it for something slightly less productive. I have started up piano lessons again after a ten-year hiatus. Because I am quite busy, I do not have a great deal of available practice time after school, so I have started to use my free period as a practice time! Forty-five to fifty minutes is the perfect amount of time to go through my piano songs a couple of times. The only bad thing about this arrangement is that I have to go to another building to use a piano. This building does not have air conditioning, for some peculiar reason. I guess the building is so old that it precedes central air conditioning and heating! Most of the time, I can handle the discomfort of being without air conditioning, but a couple of times, the heat has been so bad that I have actually cut my practice time quite short! My piano practice arrangement has worked well overall, but I cannot wait until fall and winter comes so I do not need an HVAC unit as much as I do now. I will welcome cool weather with open arms.
I’ve been telling my hubby for weeks that we need to have heating and cooling maintenance done, but he is just not listening. He has never been the type of guy who likes to have professional help in the home. No matter what it is, he would prefer to do it himself. As for me, I don’t think that it is a wise decision. Sure, it’s fine to make repairs if you have some sort of training or background knowledge, but my hubby doesn’t know the first thing about how an HVAC system works! He has never repaired a heating or cooling unit in his life, so I do not think that it is wise to have him try and repair our HVAC unit. He has great intentions, but in this case, it will be much better to call for an HVAC professional. We are having tons of issues with our gas furnace, which has been really frustrating. My hubby cleaned the entire furnace off and even put in fresh air filters, but nothing seems to make the furnace work better. No matter what adjustments we make to the thermostat, the house is so slow to heat up. It makes me really nervous for the winter season, because we have some very cold temperatures. I don’t want to be stuck in a frigid winter storm without a working furnace! I don’t want my husband to try any more repairs to the furnace, because it could be so easy to accidentally knock something loose, or tighten the wrong part, and create an even bigger problem. I think that it is time to take the matter into my own hands, and call an HVAC company myself to have the furnace repaired!
My house is located way out in the country, and I have no neighbors. I love my gigantic yard, the surrounding woods, and the little stream that runs through the property. Because we are quite a distance from the nearest town, we don’t have the benefit of city water. We have a water well, and it provides a plentiful supply of really hard water. The condition of our water is a huge drawback, and causes a ton of problems. We’ve drilled a new water well several times, and never found anything but hard water. There are so many minerals and contaminants in the water that it destroys everything it touches. I can’t have a dishwasher because the buildup of minerals hinders operation and the water leaves a residue on my dishes and glasses. I just end up needing to rewash the dishes. I can’t ever use bleach, because it turns my hard water bright orange and causes stains. I have rust stains in my tub, sinks, and toilets, and am forced to use extremely harsh chemicals for cleaning. I replace my shower curtain every month, clean the aerators in the faucets every six weeks, and replace my hot water tank every two years. When I am constantly buying new fixtures and appliances, the hard water becomes a very expensive problem. I also have issues with my skin and hair due to the water. I use a lot of moisturizer, and I battle symptoms of eczema. Whenever I travel, I notice the significant improvement in the condition of my skin and hair. It’s a real pleasure to get away from my hard water. I have tried installing several types of water softeners, but these devices simply run me out of water.
I’ve been trying to get my husband to call for HVAC maintenance for the past two weeks, but it still hasn’t happened. He’s always been wary of calling for professional help around the home, and he is always trying to repair things on his own. When we had plumbing leaks, he spent days trying to find the leaky pipe and repair it before finally agreeing to call for a plumber. Sometimes, he can make repairs on his own, but when it comes to something expensive, like an HVAC unit, I would much rather trust a professional with the job. It’s not that my husband doesn’t know what he’s doing, and I know that he has the best of intentions, but it is so easy to accidentally exacerbate a problem while trying to fix it! The last thing that I want to do is have the HVAC system get broken any further, just because he accidentally hit the wrong wire or tightened the wrong screw. The issue is with the furnace. It doesn’t seem to be responding as quickly to the thermostat settings, and it takes forever for the house to warm up. At this point, we’ve cleaned all the dirt and dust off the furnace, and replaced the air filters, but the furnace still doesn’t work properly. I don’t want to suffer through a chilly winter without a properly working furnace! I know that my husband doesn’t want to call for an HVAC technician, but I think that is the best option for us. I want to make sure that our furnace can not only last through this winter, but through many more winters! I’ve looked up a few good HVAC companies in the area, and tomorrow, we are definitely calling for a furnace repair.
Immediately after I bought my home and my family moved in, we started having trouble with the bathtub drain. At the best of times, the water drained from the tub very slowly. This left soap scum in the tub, and forced me to clean it constantly. It’s also very unpleasant to stand in ankle-deep water while showering. Frequently, the tub would refuse to drain altogether. Numerous times, I had no choice but to bail the water out of the tub using a bucket. I purchased a drain-snake to try and clear out the obstruction but had no luck. Every week, I made a point of pouring harsh chemicals down the drain to keep it flowing. Eventually, I realized that I needed professional help with the drain. I called up a local plumbing contractor, and was completely amazed by his tools and equipment. He had a small video camera that inserted into my plumbing lines and sent back a clear image. Because of this, he was able to determine the exact location of the clog, which was quite deep into the line. The plumber not only resolved my problem with the tub drain, he got all my drains working more efficiently. He managed to remove a great deal of hair, soap scum, and mineral buildup from the pipes to promote superior operation. He drained the hot water tank to combat the accumulation of iron, calcium, and other sediment, cleaned the aerators on the faucets, and checked for any leaks. It was such a positive experience that I enrolled in a maintenance plan with my plumbing contractor.
I had no clue that my life would change so harshly on that fall day. I woke up in the day, and it was a day unlike any additional days. The birds were melodically chirping, while the fragrant morning smells seeped under the window ledge. The weather was cool, but not cold enough to be bothersome in any way. It was a Tuesday in fact….I had spent the better part of three hours outside gardening, and it was nearly noon, when I entered the house again. I could tell the gas furnace had stopped now working almost instantly. The air inside the apartment felt easily cold, plus the thermostat was studying 74 degrees. I knew that couldn’t be right because I could see my breath in the air as I walked throughout the house. I called the heating plus cooling repair supplier, plus they sent a specialist to my apartment. They worked on a faulty thermostat, and then the heating & cooling specialist suggested we install a brand new smart thermostat. That was indeed the best decision that I have ever made. Not only does this thermostat have incredible smart functions, but there it also learns your heating and cooling behaviors, and can adjust itself to adapt to our heating and cooling behaviors. It can also detect if the kids are home, and turn the heat on automatically. plus shut itself off. It has also helped myself and others lower my utility bills by numerous percent! All of us are saving money each month, by using the smart thermostat. I am so happy with this simple and easy upgrade!
